New Delhi: Counting of votes, the grand finale in the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in 542 seats begin on Thursday morning at 8:00 am along with state assemblies of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

The Election Commission (EC) has made elaborate arrangements for smooth and hassle-free counting as well as for providing authentic and latest updates.

The counting that begin at 8:00 a.m. and trends are likely to start coming in by afternoon, while results are expected by the evening, according to EC official said.

By evening a clear picture is likely to emerge on who would be the major player(s) in the 17th Lok Sabha and who all will be winners among 8049 candidates in the fray.

 

Counting begins to select new govt of 17th Lok Sabha on Thursday morning:

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting from Varanasi while Congress President Rahul is contesting from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala.

Counting of Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) and Postal Ballots will be taken up first.

Counting personnel will randomly select five EVMs from each Assembly segments for matching with VVPAT slips as directed by the Supreme Court.

There will be three-tier security in place with the outer cordon beginning 100 metres from the counting centre.

Shyam Ramsay passes away at 67 in Mumbai

Mumbai:  Shyam Ramsay, one of the seven Ramsay Brothers known for cult horror films such as ‘Puraani Haveli’ and ‘Tahkhana’, died in a hospital on Wednesday, his family said. He was 67. Shyam died of pneumonia at a city-based hospital.

Shyam Ramsay was considered the brain behind the group, he directed films such as ‘Darwaza’, ‘Purana Mandir’ and ‘Veerana’. He was also responsible for ‘The Zee horror show’, ‘Saturday Suspense’, ‘X Zone’ and ‘Nagin’.

The origins of the horror empire set up by the band of brothers can be traced back to a modest radio shop in Karachi in undivided India.

The shop’s proprietor, Fatehchand U Ramsinghani, had relocated to Mumbai after Partition and decided to get into the business of film production.

The Ramsay Brothers, for the longest time ruled the horror genre in Indian cinema with low-budget movies in the 1970s and 1980s. The films were widely popular for their unique mix of horror and erotica.

The last rites will be held at Vile Parle crematorium on Wednesday. Shyam Ramsay is survived by two daughters Sasha and Namrata.
