Fifth ODI: India needs 111 runs to win

Sydney: In a final and 5th One day International at Sydney Cricket Ground here, India won the toss and opted to bowl first following which Australia set a massive target of 330 runs against Team India.

With the start of Australia batting, David Warner showed his natural game by delivering an explosive 122 runs. On the other hand, Steven Smith and George Bailey couldn’t keep their good performance in the fifth ODI.

However, Mitchell Marsh batted superbly and smashed 102 runs with the help of nine boundaries and two sixes.

With the help of superb batting performance by Warner and Mitchell Marsh, Australia put a strong total of 330 runs.

Chasing the target, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan built a strong 100-run partnership however Hashting gave a breakthrough by taking a wicket of Shikhar Dhawan at 78 runs.

In-form batsmen Virat Kohli also failed to show his magic and dismissed on 8 runs.

India needs 125 runs with Rohit Sharma (88) and Manish (43) on the crease.

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
