In the petition by IPS officer Amitabh Thakur challenging the investigation being conducted against him by Lokayukta N K Mehrotra as being in contravention to UP Lokayukta Act 1975 and the UP Lokayukta Complaint Rules 1977, the Lokayukta today told the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court that the investigation has already been completed on 24 August and report sent to State government.

The bench consisting of Justice Shabihul Hasnain and Justice D K Upadhyaya said that now that the investigation is complete the petition loses its relevance though Sri Thakur can challenge the investigation report.

Sri Thakur had said that Sri Mahrotra is conducting investigation against sections 9(2), 9(3), 9(5) and 8(1) of the Act and Rule 5 of the Complaint Rules.

He had alleged Sri Mahrotra of illegally interfere in civil disputes related with his wife Dr Nutan Thakur and his parents’ properties because of his personal grudge for his wife’s complaint against ministers Azam Khan and Gayatri Prajapati and her complaint regarding misuse of public plane by Lokayukta.

Sri Thakur said the hurried manner in which Sri Mahrotra completed this enquiry after filing of petition shows his culpability and he will not only challenge the enquiry report but also would seek action against Sri Mahrotra.

The court, generally, considers a person who commit a crime and the one who destroys the evidence, as criminals in the eyes of law. But what if an animal destroys the evidence of a crime committed by a human.

In a peculiar incident in Rajasthan, a monkey fled away with the evidence collected by the police in a murder case. The stolen evidence included the murder weapon (a blood-stained knife).

The incident came to light when the police appeared before the court and they had to provide the evidence in the hearing.

Following the investigation, the police had arrested Rahul Kandera and Mohanlal Kandera, residents of Chandwaji in relation to the murder. But, when the time came to produce the evidence related to the case, it was found that the police had no evidence with them because a monkey had stolen it from them.

In the court, the police said that the knife, which was the primary evidence, was also taken by the monkey. The cops informed that the evidence of the case was kept in a bag, which was being taken to the court.

The evidence bag contained the knife and 15 other important evidences. However, due to the lack of space in the malkhana, a bag full of evidence was kept under a tree, which led to the incident.
