Lucknow Metro work resumes in full flow

Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) today resumed the work of erection of U-girders by placing a pair of U-girders on Metro piers (pillars) between the Charbagh and Durgapuri Metro stations in the presence of Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, LMRC. This feat was achieved by Metro engineers in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Under the supervision of the Managing Director, the two U-girders were erected successfully one after the other. LMRC engineers erected the 414th U-girder at 4:45 AM while they placed the 415th U-girder over Metro piers (pillars) at 6 AM today.

For this, traffic on one side of the main road (between Charbagh & Durgapuri) was diverted and was blocked and barricaded properly to carry out the work in a safe environment for launching of U-girders during the night hours.

Erection of U-girders over Metro pillars is a very challenging and tough task considering the trickiness of job and huge safety concerns associated with it. Each U-girder weighs around 150 tonnes and a pair of such girders have to be lifted through cranes and then fixed over the viaduct.

This work is even more difficult considering the fact that it has to be done in just six hours during the night time as LMRC does not undertake the work of U-girder erection in day time owing to city traffic constraints.

Lucknow Metro now needs to erect only 120 U-Girders in the remaining time schedule in order to finish the work and provide an 8.5 km Metro viaduct ready for commissioning of the project by December, 2016.
