Telangana’s farm sector to get nine hour power supply

raoHyderabad:The farm sector in Telangana will get nine hour electricity supply every day from Khariff crop season this year.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday directed officials to take all steps to ensure nine hour supply to farmers and uninterrupted power to other sectors.

Farmers in the state are currently being supplied seven hour free electricity. In 2014 elections, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) had promised to increase the duration to nine hours a day.

The chief minister held a meeting with top officials to review the power supply. According to a statement from the chief minister’s office, the state currently has power generation capacity of 4,445 Megawatt and the government has set a goal of adding 4,600 MW by the year end.

The officials informed the chief minister that 600 MW unit of Bhoopalapally plant will be commissioned on January 5. Another 1,200 MW will be available from Singareni plant by April. Another 1,000 MW from Chhattisgarh will be available by year end. Officials said 800 MW solar power will also be available by April.

The chief minister asked officials to prepare plans and implement them with the ultimate goal to generate 25,000 MW by 2018.
