Mumbai: Following the retirement of destructive opening batsman Virender Sehwag on Tuesday, several former and current cricketers thanked the 37-year-old for all the memories and achievements he got on the field.

“Sehwag leaves his signature on the game with his tremendous achievements. Loved his instinctive approach to batting and life. Had the best seat during most of his superlative performances on field. Am sure Viru will do much more to bring joy and smiles to our faces,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.

Kumble tweeted: “Nobody batted like you at the top. Congrats on a great career. Great team man. Best wishes to your second innings.”

India’s limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also praised Sehwag.

“Didn’t see Viv Richards bat in person but I can proudly say I have witnessed Virender Sehwag tearing apart the best bowling attacks. Talent in batting is one thing but to have the mindset of Virupa in batting is as close to impossible as it can get. Viru keep saying b positive,” Dhoni said.

“Look for a single but he was one person who was always looking for a boundary. Many will try to play like you but my advice would be to enjoy your batting and be themselves. Congrats on a fantastic career.”

In a career spanning over 15 years in international cricket, Sehwag featured in 104 Tests and scored 8,586 runs at a staggering average of 49.34. In 251 One-Day Internationals (ODI), he amassed 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05. He also scored 38 international hundreds.

“Salute salute salute Salute to the Legend Sehwag, wish you and family the best for future. Go well brother. Modern era’s Viv Richards, Sehwag a top player. Enjoyed playing and watching u bat and making fun of bowlers,” Harbhajan Singh tweeted.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra said: “Sehwag bhai truly revolutionised the art of opening the batting in ways changing the way about scoring runs.”

Ajinkya Rahane tweeted: “Viru paji u have been an inspiration to billions of cricket fans across the world. Thanks for giving us all the joy while you batted.”

The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ last represented India in the Test series against Australia in March 2013 and his spot was subsequently filled by the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay following a string of low scores.

“The legend I played with. The miracle I had the fortune of knowing. The most spectacular ever. Will miss u Sehwag,” Suresh Raina said.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said, “Clear thinking and entertainment were things he used as his weapon. A thorough entertainer, congrats on a wonderful career Sehwag.”

Rohit Sharma said: “Man who changed the perception of modern day batting. Never seen and will never see someone like him in future. Sheer pleasure viru bhai.”

Sehwag is still the only Indian to have two triple centuries in his name in Tests, having done so against Pakistan (309 in Multan) and South Africa (319 in Chennai).

“Congrats Sehwag on a fabulous career. A pure entertainer who gave us sooo much joy. Thanks for all the great memories,” V.V.S. Laxman said.

Statemate Shikhar Dhawan tweeted: “The original opener; the dare devil. Congratulations Sehwag paaji on a wonderful journey and all the best for the future.”

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar said, “Virender Sehwag has had a long and illustrious career. Over the years he has been a great example for his peers and youngsters alike. He has given cricket lovers across the globe a lot of joy with his unique style of batting. He was one of the most feared batsmen. Here’s wishing him the best in the future.”

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said, “I want to congratulate Viru on a fantastic career. He redefined batting and brought so many laurels to the country. He was like India’s very own Sir Viv Richards who would tear bowling attacks to bits. He leaves the game as one of our all-time greats and a role model to young Indians on what all one can achieve through dedication. I wish him the very best for all his future endeavours.”

International online casino Casino Days has published a report sharing their internal data on what types and brands of devices are used to play on the platform by users from the South Asian region.

Such aggregate data analyses allow the operator to optimise their website for the brands and models of devices people are actually using.

The insights gained through the research also help Casino Days tailor their services based on the better understanding of their clients and their needs.

Desktops and Tablets Lose the Battle vs Mobile

The primary data samples analysed by Casino Days reveal that mobile connections dominate the market in South Asia and are responsible for a whopping 96.6% of gaming sessions, while computers and tablets have negligible shares of 2.9% and 0.5% respectively.

The authors of the study point out that historically, playing online casino was exclusively done on computers, and attribute thе major shift to mobile that has unfolded over time to the wide spread of cheaper smartphones and mobile data plans in South Asia.

“Some of the reasons behind this massive difference in device type are affordability, technical advantages, as well as cheaper and more obtainable internet plans for mobiles than those for computers,” the researchers comment.

Xiaomi and Vivo Outperform Samsung, Apple Way Down in Rankings

Chinese brands Xiaomi and Vivo were used by 21.9% and 20.79% of Casino Days players from South Asia respectively, and together with the positioned in third place with a 18.1% share South Korean brand Samsung dominate the market among real money gamers in the region.

Cupertino, California-based Apple is way down in seventh with a user share of just 2.29%, overshadowed by Chinese brands Realme (11.43%), OPPO (11.23%), and OnePlus (4.07%).

Huawei is at the very bottom of the chart with a tiny share just below the single percent mark, trailing behind mobile devices by Motorola, Google, and Infinix.

The data on actual phone usage provided by Casino Days, even though limited to the gaming parts of the population of South Asia, paints a different picture from global statistics on smartphone shipments by vendors.

Apple and Samsung have been sharing the worldwide lead for over a decade, while current regional leader Xiaomi secured their third position globally just a couple of years ago.

Striking Android Dominance among South Asian Real Money Gaming Communities

The shifted market share patterns of the world’s top smartphone brands in South Asia observed by the Casino Days research paper reveal a striking dominance of Android devices at the expense of iOS-powered phones.

On the global level, Android enjoys a comfortable lead with a sizable 68.79% share which grows to nearly 79% when we look at the whole continent of Asia. The data on South Asian real money gaming communities suggests that Android’s dominance grows even higher and is north of the 90% mark.

Among the major factors behind these figures, the authors of the study point to the relative affordability of and greater availability of Android devices in the region, especially when manufactured locally in countries like India and Vietnam.

“And, with influencers and tech reviews putting emphasis on Android devices, the choice of mobile phone brand and OS becomes easy; Android has a much wider range of products and caters to the Asian online casino market in ways that Apple can’t due to technical limitations,” the researchers add.

The far better integration achieved by Google Pay compared to its counterpart Apple Pay has also played a crucial role in shaping the existing smartphone market trends.
