Neymar admits Manchester United conversations

Madrid: Spanish champions FC Barcelona’s star striker Neymar has confirmed that he spoke to English giants Manchester United for a potential transfer before the beginning of the ongoing 2015-16 football season.

The English press earlier reported the news, but few believed that there was an actual possibility of the Brazilian ace leaving Barcelona to play in the English Premier League, reports Xinhua.

However, Neymar has confirmed that he did speak to the English club.

“There were some conversations, but nothing concrete came of it. There were a lot of rumours, but I didn’t receive any offers,” he said on Thursday.

Although there were no offers, the very fact that one of Barcelona’s star players spoke to another club, must be worrying for Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Barcelona are currently negotiating with the Brazilian for a new and improved contract.

Neymar is currently in his third season with Barcelona after arriving in 2013 in a deal which has led to the club facing charges of tax avoidance, forcing former president Sandro Rosell to resign.

The ongoing case will see Rosell and Bartomeu face charges in court.

Sunil Gavaskar gives his opinion of GT allrounder Rahul Tewatia

The left-handed batsman from Haryana is garnering praise from all quarters for the way he’s finishing games regularly in the most exciting IPL season.

Gavaskar reckons Tewatia’s whirlwind knock in Sharjah (in IPL 2020) where he smashed West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over, gave him the confidence that he belongs to the big stage.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”

Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
