Public transport to be free for fans at 2016 Rio Olympics
Rio de Janeiro: Fans will be able to use public transport for free during the Rio 2016 Olympics, organisers have announced.
The announcement came after the local organising committee struck a deal with the mayors of the host cities, Rio ticketing director Donovan Ferreti said on Tuesday, as per reports.
Apart from Rio, the Olympics will feature men’s and women’s football in five other cities: Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Manaus, Sao Paulo and Brasilia.
In Rio, fans with tickets will be able to travel to and from event venues by bus, train and subway.
The measure was also adopted during last year’s FIFA World Cup, which featured matches in 12 Brazilian cities.
The Rio Games, the first Olympics to be staged in South America, will be held from August 5 to 21, 2016.

Speaking on Cricket Live on Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “That assault on Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah gave him the belief to do the impossible and the confidence that he belongs here. We saw the impossible (he did with the bat) the other day as well. There’s no twitching or touching the pads (which shows a batter’s nervousness) when he bats in the death overs. He just waits for the ball to be delivered and plays his shots. He’s got all the shots in the book, but most importantly his temperament to stay cool in a crisis is brilliant.”
Gavaskar has also nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer the ‘ice-man’ and lauded Tewatia’s ability to remain unruffled during the tense moments.
