As many as 18 students test positive for Covid-19 in Noida

The GautamBuddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, where Noida is located, reported 103 fresh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours on Wednesday. Of the new cases, 18 are school students. There are 467 active cases in the district at present.

In the last 24 hours, 47 people recovered from Covid-19, taking to district’s total recoveries to 98,300.

On Tuesday, the district registered 107 fresh Covid cases, of which 33 were school students.

Until now, 99,257 Covid-19 cases have been detected in GautamBuddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh since the pandemic began.

After a sharp drop in Covid cases across the nation on Tuesday, the number surged as India reported 2,067 new patients on Wednesday over the previous 24 hours. While on Monday, 2,183 infections were reported, Tuesday’s figures available by the Union health ministry reflected 1,247 new patients and a fatality.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
