The electric vehicle segment is booming with new launches every other week, but the biggest carmaker just ramped up its EV plans, as Toyota announced a range of electric vehicles that are on their way to various global markets in the next decade. The Japanese carmaker showcased its future strategy, as well as introduced a number of electric crossovers, electric SUVs, electric concepts, electric pick-up trucks, and even electric sportscars, along with a range of electric products under Lexus, all of which are a part of the company’s electric ‘BZ’ moniker. As part of the global strategy, Toyota and Lexus will introduce as many as 30 new electric products by 2030, half of which will debut in markets by 2025.

Toyota will challenge Peugeot, Opel with a small electric SUV.

Additionally, Toyota will also invest $17.6 billion in battery vehicle technology, an increase over its previous commitment of $13.6 billion. Toyota was an early pioneer in electrification, helping pave the way for companies like Tesla and others by proving that vehicles with alternative powertrains could be immensely popular. This step could revive the company’s footprint in the global markets in terms of the number of electric vehicles produced, as well as growth in the developing EV markets. This would also mean converting its existing plants across the world into EV plants. The Toyota-Lexus brand will be transformed into an all-electric line-up by 2035 as part of the broad goals of the Japanese automaker.

Toyota BZ compact SUV will be the brand’s cheapest electric vehicle.

As part of the announcement, Toyota showed several dozen concept vehicles, including sedans, sports cars, crossovers, SUVs, pickup trucks, and even a couple of shuttle buses. The company didn’t release many details about each vehicle but did note that a planned Lexus sports car would have a range of 700km and be able to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in under 2 seconds. Toyota’s first long-range EV, the BZ4X compact SUV, is expected to be released in the US in mid-2022. The brand also showed off an electric sedan and an electric SUV.
