Depressed doctor kills his wife and 2 kids, leaves last note saying “Omicron will kill everyone”

A doctor allegedly murdered his wife and two children in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Friday. He is absconding at present and the police are looking for him.

According to a diary found at the site of the alleged murder, the accused was concerned over the new Omicron variant of coronavirus. In the diary, it was written, “Omicron will kill everyone. Due to my carelessness, I am stuck at a point from which it is difficult to escape.”

The accused had reportedly been depressed for a long time.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Dr Sushil Kumar, the head of the forensics department at a hospital in Kanpur, allegedly killed his 48-year-old wife, 18-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter and then messaged his brother asking him to call the police. Before the police or his brother could reach, he purportedly fled the scene.

On reaching the spot, the police sent the three bodies for a post-mortem examination. A blood-stained hammer was also found in the vicinity.

In the diary found nearby, the accused had reportedly referred to ‘an incurable disease’ he was suffering from. As per a report, he wrote in the diary that he cannot leave his family in trouble and has, hence, set everyone on the path of liberation.

The police investigation is currently underway.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.

The first Covid case was reported in the state in March 2020 and three Covid deaths were recorded in the month.
