After a successful handling of the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh is yet again emerging successful in taming its deadly second wave as the state logged fresh cases below 50 for two weeks in a row.

Marching victoriously towards being Covid-19 free, out of the 1,56,524 samples tested, Uttar Pradesh recorded as many as 28 fresh COVID-19 cases, testifying success of numerous proactive measures adopted by the state government in limiting the transmission of virus in the densely populated state.

Signalling control over the second wave of coronavirus infection, the Fresh cases have declined by over 99 percent from its peak which was capped at 38,055 on April 24. The state has also been able to restrict the daily Covid case-count below 100 for nearly two months now.

On the contrary, sparsely populated states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala that opted for strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of coronavirus have miserably failed to register any decline in the number of fresh infections and as a result have been reporting 2,000-22,000 Covid cases regularly, which is far more than even the Active Caseload in Uttar Pradesh.

Active Caseload in UP dips to nearly 350

Uttar Pradesh has also seen a drastic and consistent decline in the number of active cases by more than three lakh ten thousand in a span of few months.

The Active Caseload in the most populous state has been reduced to nearly 350 pushing the Recovery Rate up to a remarkable 98.6 percent, while the percentage of active cases as against the total confirmed cases is just 0 per cent.

Implementing measures such as the intensive ‘Trace, Test & Treat’ and prevention through vaccination and Partial Corona Curfews to decimate the pandemic, the UP government has worked with multipronged approach to minimise its devastating impact, as a result of which the positivity rate has slumped to 0.01 per cent, the lowest in the country.

Despite aggressive tracing and testing, Uttar Pradesh’s positivity rate —
which shows the level of infections among people — has been registering a steady decline for several days indicating signs that the dangerous Covid wave is receding from the state, in contrast to which states like Kerala have failed to register any reduction and have a positivity rate of 15 percent.

The testing capacity across the state continues to be expanded, as a result of which Uttar Pradesh has conducted the maximum number of tests at 7,08,85,900.
