Government prioritising homoeopathy development: Minister

Kolkata, Dec 12 (IANS) Union Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday said the central government has been prioritising the development of homoeopathy along with other traditional systems of medicine as it gained popularity throughout the country after Independence.

Inaugurating the academic-cum-library building and unveiling the statue of Dr.C.F.S. Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, at the National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH) here, he announced allocation of Rs 60 crore for the first phase of expansion of the institute.

A sum of Rs 30 crore each would be allocated for the second and third phases, he said.

According to him, the institute should stand out in education, carry out need-based research and deliver efficient patient care with gaining importance and acceptance of homeopathy in the world.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
