‘Kids orphaned due to Covid will get free education’: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced today that all the students who have lost their parents or guardians during the current Covid-19 pandemic will be offered free education by the state government.

This decision has been taken in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases across Madhya Pradesh in the past couple of months. Apart from free education, these students will also be provided with a monthly pension of Rs 5000 for their books and other necessities.

Apart from taking responsibility for the education of students, the government will also help people who lost their jobs during the pandemic. They will be granting loans to families on government guarantees to people who want to work.

 

Madhya Pradesh exams postponed

In view of the rise in Covid-19 cases across the state in recent weeks, the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has decided to postpone the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams for this academic year till further notice.

This decision was taken soon after the Central Board of Secondary Education decided to postpone the Class 12 exams and cancel the Class 10 exams across the country due to the Covid-19 crisis. The dates of the Class 12 board exams have not been decided yet.

The Class 10 and 12 board exams in Madhya Pradesh were scheduled to be conducted from April 30 this year. The new dates of the Madhya Pradesh board exams will be delivered after the government reviews the Covid-19 situation in the state.

Meanwhile, all the schools and higher educational institutes in Madhya Pradesh have been shut down due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. Lessons for students of higher classes are continuing online for the time being.

Covid toll in Karnataka is a worrying sign for state government

Even though Karnataka recorded the lowest number of Covid deaths in April since the virus struck first in 2020, the state is recording a rise in the positivity rate (1.50 per cent). Five people died from the Covid infections in April as per the statistics released by the state health department. In March, the positivity rate stood around 0.53 per cent. In the first week of April it came down to 0.38 per cent, second week registered 0.56 per cent, third week it rose to 0.79 per cent and by end of April the Covid positivity rate touched 1.19 per cent.
