Sri Lanka has postponed the use of China’s COVID-19 vaccine cyanoform. Now Sri Lanka will use the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in India to immunize 14 million people. According to the cabinet’s Assistant Spokesperson, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm has not yet completed Phase III clinical trials.

Pathirana said that the complete dossier regarding the registration of China’s vaccine has also not yet been received. He said that Sri Lanka would now rely mostly on the AstraZeneca vaccine produced at the Serum Institute of India. The Assistant Spokesperson said, “At the moment, we need to use the AstraZeneca vaccine. Once we get the complete documents from the Chinese manufacturer, we can consider its registration. ‘

Significantly, India has been helping other countries of the world to fight the Corona epidemic. Recently, India provided millions of Covid-19 vaccines to the Indian Ocean countries. This laudable move from India attracted international attention. Lakhs of vaccines manufactured in India have been delivered from Myanmar to Bangladesh and Mauritius to Seychelles last week. A consignment of five lakh vaccines has also reached Sri Lanka. Preparations are on to send lakhs of vaccines to other countries as well. Bharat Biotech reported that Brazil will be supplied 20 million doses of the Corona vaccine during the second and third quarters of this year.
