The central government on Monday announced major changes in the country’s mapping policy. These changes have been made specifically for Indian companies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given information about this by tweeting. He said that policy change is a major step in the government’s vision to make India self-reliant.
PM Modi said that our government has taken a decision, which will provide a big boost to Digital India. Liberal policies governing the acquisition and production of geospatial data is a major step in our vision for a self-sufficient India.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said in a release, ‘What is readily available globally does not need to be banned in India and hence the geospatial data that was restricted will now be freely available in India. Prior approval will not be required before collecting, preparing, promoting, storing, publishing, updating digital geospatial data and maps within the territory of India.
