New Delhi: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today written an emotional letter to the people of his state Gurjarat and requested them to vote for Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in upcoming assembly polls lined up next month.

In a letter to Gujaratis, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to not let the state fall into the pit of caste-communal politics and vote for BJP as opposition is doing politics over Patidar and the Dalits.

Yet another massive stroke played by the BJP, leaving the opposition far behind in the race of campaigning ahead of the Gujarat assembly election which will take place in two phases in the state.

The first phase of the voting will be done on 9 Dec and the second phase of voting will be done on 14 Dec, the results will be announced on 18 Dec along with the results of Himachal Pradesh assembly elections due on 9 Nov.

It seems like the BJP was just waiting for the right opportunity to give another blow to the already nervous Congress.

As soon as Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi left Gujarat to attend to the more immediate elections campaign in Himachal, BJP launched the ‘Gujarat Gaurav Maha-Sampark Abhiyan’, under which the BJP members will go from door to door, appealing for votes and telling the people about the development work done by the BJP for them and for the state.

The campaign does not just end here, to add the spark to it while visiting the residents, each voter is given a copy of a copy of a letter personally written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

Modi taking advantage of Gujarat being his home state and he being the Chief Minister of Gujarat for 13 years, emotionally connected with the people by writing a letter to them.

In his letter, Modi has urged that “it is the responsibility of the people to not let the State fall into the pit of caste-communal politics and “do justice to the struggle for vikaas that every Gujarati had to undergo when the UPA government at the centre was hostile towards them.”

He also warned the people to be careful of the vested interests that are being flaked by opposition to create distinctions among Gujaratis for their own political benefit.

Modi urges Gujaratis through emotional letter to vote for BJP in assembly polls:

Asking the people to vote for BJP in a massive majority, Modi said that “Today’s Gujaratis who are in their early twenties may not remember how the State was reeling under politics played on inciting communal and caste biases among voters years ago but it is your responsibility to rescue the State from falling into that trap again.”

The Prime Minister’s letter also read that if the BJP comes back to power in Gujarat, it will be for the first time after many years that BJP will be at power both at the state and the Centre and this will definitely add to the speedy development of Gujarat.

“It has only been three years since you gave me an opportunity to lead the nation and in that short time, we have brought in various schemes to improve the lives of the poor. But we are Gujaratis, we always want more development and the time has come for us to grow more, grow faster,” he wrote in the letter.

He also attacked the then ruling UPA government saying that the government had tried their best to create hindrances and stop the Sardar Sarovar project on the Narmada but it was his government that made the project operational.

Praising the Gujaratis for the understanding and decision making abilities, Modi in his letter wrote that “No one understands vikaas better than Gujaratis. Only development is an answer to all problems and you all must take the Vikas yatra ahead by voting for the BJP again.”

Trying to hit the emotional chords of the people of Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed Gujaratis as his ‘Aatma’ and India as his ‘Parmatma’.

In his letter, he also reminded that how bad the situations were in Gujarat, 22 years ago and how after BJP came to power, the party helped not only put Gujarat ahead of all States in India but also made it the land of immense opportunities for growing businesses and sustainable livelihoods.

Listing down the achievements of the BJP government in Gujarat, Modi wrote that “You know this has not come easily. We had to struggle to get here. Our daughters can walk around safely here, there is 24-hour electricity. We have progressed in every sphere.”

While the Congress is busy luring the Patidar and the Dalits, the BJP is reaching out to each voter personally, leaving much more impact than the opposition party.

It is high time that the Congress buckle up its shoe and come up with some unbeatable campaigning ideas if the party really wishes to end its political exile of 22 years in Gujarat.

The State Scores Extra High on Gaming-Friendly Industry Index

Meghalaya scored 92.85 out of 100 possible points in a Gaming Industry Index and proved to be India’s most gaming-friendly state following its recent profound legislation changes over the field allowing land-based and online gaming, including games of chance, under a licensing regime.

The index by the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) uses a scale of 0 to 100 to measure the level of legalisation on gambling and betting achieved by a state based on the scores over a set of seven different games – lottery, horse racing, betting on sports, poker, rummy, casino and fantasy sports

Starting from February last year, Meghalaya became the third state in India’s northeast to legalise gambling and betting after Sikkim and Nagaland. After consultations with the UKIBC, the state proceeded with the adoption of the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Act, 2021 and the nullification of the Meghalaya Prevention of Gambling Act, 1970. Subsequently in December, the Meghalaya Regulation of Gaming Rules, 2021 were notified and came into force.

All for the Tourists

The move to legalise and license various forms of offline and online betting and gambling in Meghalaya is aimed at boosting tourism and creating jobs, and altogether raising taxation revenues for the northeastern state. At the same time, the opportunities to bet and gamble legally will be reserved only for tourists and visitors.

“We came out with a Gaming Act and subsequently framed the Regulation of Gaming Rules, 2021. The government will accordingly issue licenses to operate games of skill and chance, both online and offline,” said James P. K. Sangma, Meghalaya State Law and Taxation Minister speaking in the capital city of Shillong. “But the legalized gambling and gaming will only be for tourists and not residents of Meghalaya,” he continued.

To be allowed to play, tourists and people visiting the state for work or business purposes will have to prove their non-resident status by presenting appropriate documents, in a process similar to a bank KYC (Know Your Customer) procedure.

Meghalaya Reaches Out to a Vast Market

With 140 millions of people in India estimated to bet regularly on sports, and a total of 370 million desi bettors around prominent sporting events, as per data from one of the latest reports by Esse N Videri, Meghalaya is set to reach out and take a piece of a vast market.

Estimates on the financial value of India’s sports betting market, combined across all types of offline channels and online sports and cricket predictions and betting platforms, speak about amounts between $130 and $150 billion (roughly between ₹9.7 and ₹11.5 lakh crore).

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Delhi are shown to deliver the highest number of bettors and Meghalaya can count on substantial tourists flow from their betting circles. The sports betting communities of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are also not to be underestimated.

Among the sports, cricket is most popular, registering 68 percent of the total bet count analyzed by Esse N Videri. Football takes second position with 11 percent of the bets, followed by betting on FIFA at 7 percent and on eCricket at 5 percent. The last position in the Top 5 of popular sports for betting in India is taken by tennis with 3 percent of the bet count.

Local Citizens will Still have Their Teer Betting

Meghalaya residents will still be permitted to participate in teer betting over arrow-shooting results. Teer is a traditional method of gambling, somewhat similar to a lottery draw, and held under the rules of the Meghalaya Regulation of the Game of Arrow Shooting and the Sale of Teer Tickets Act, 2018.

Teer includes bettors wagering on the number of arrows that reach the target which is placed about 50 meters away from a team of 20 archers positioned in a semicircle.

The archers shoot volleys of arrows at the target for ten minutes, and players place their bets choosing a number between 0 and 99 trying to guess the last two digits of the number of arrows that successfully pierce the target.

If, for example, the number of hits is 256, anyone who has bet on 56 wins an amount eight times bigger than their wager.
