New Delhi, Environmentalist, Anupam Mishra,aims, water conservationist, Gandhian, journalist, Ministry of Environment and Forests,New Delhi:Noted Gandhian, journalist, environmentalist, and water conservationist Anupam Mishra passed away at the age of 68 at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here early Monday morning, a family member said. He was battling prostrate cancer for the last one year.

He had been awarded the 1996 Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar (IGPP) award instituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.He travelled to villages across India describing the value of time-tested systems of water harvesting.

He advocated conservation of traditional water structures in India as well as abroad.He wrote books, like, Aaj Bhi Khare Hain Talaab (Lakes are still Standing, 1993) and Rajasthan Ki Rajat Boondein (Radiant Raindrops of Rajasthan, 1995), — landmark works in the field of water conservation.

Indian Army knocks down two terrorists in south Kashmir

Srinagar: Two terrorists were killed and two security men injured in an ongoing encounter in the Tral area of south Kashmir on Tuesday.

According to reports, police had a specific input about the presence of militants in the Zand village of Tral. The area was cordoned off and search operation launched. A contact was eventually established with the militants, who were hiding in a house that led to the fire fight.

This was the second major encounter in Kashmir in the past two days.

On Monday, three militants were killed in Shopian, including top Hizbul Mujhahideen commander Wasim, Adil Bashir and Jehangir.

Wasim was involved in the killing of eight people, including four security men in the valley.

Last year, Adil had decamped with eight Ak 47 rifles from the official residence of the then MLA Aijaz Mir from People’s Democratic Party.
