Obama names Korean-American physician for World Bank President
Washington: US President Barack Obama has designated Korean-American physician-anthropologist Jim Yong Kim as a new World Bank President.Obama made his choice just before his visit to South Korea for the nuclear security summit. Presently, Kim is working at Dartmouth College as president and also worked for W.H.O as Director of Department of HIV/AIDS.Kim was born in South Korea and grew up in Iowa, holds a medical degree and a doctorate in anthropology from Harvard University.For the World Bank Presidency, several Indians names were also on the list such as Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, and Pepsico CEO Indira Nooyi.Kim had also bagged a prestigious award MacArthur Fellowship, also known as the ''Genius grant'', in 2003.
