New Delhi: Today, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has changed their state president of Uttar Pradesh unit. Now, BJP in Uttar Pradesh unit will be handled by former union minister Surya Pratap Shahi. BJP’s National President Nitin Gadkari has appointed former union cabinet minister and party's state vice president Surya Pratap Shahi as the president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit, on Wednesday. Nitin Gadkari was very worried for the BJP President in Uttar Pradesh. They were looking for Vinay Katiyar or Lucknow’s Mayor Dinesh Sharma, but they decided to make Shahi, the new president of Uttar Pradesh.According to the sources, earlier, Surya Pratap Shahi has been three times MLC, once minister and vice president of the state once too. Being a politician, Shahi has also been Excise minister in Kalyan Singh Government and been elected MLC from Kasya seat, Deoria district, UP twice continuously from 1991 for 10 years. He has also been with Ram Prakash Gupta, Rajnath Singh and minister in the adjoin government of Mayawati’s BSP and BJP. Now, Shahi has been declared the President of UP unit from BJP, when the party has a dwindling position. As one of biggest challenge for newly elected President of UP unit will definitely look for respectful seats in 2012’s upcoming Assembly Elections. Shahi has replaced Ramapati Ram Tripathi, who was appointed BJP's state chief in September 2007.
